Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report early analysis suggest the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for information.
A senior political figure said the incident made him without words and had to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
