The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

We present a challenge for partners in committed relationships who are fans of horror films: Get comfortable with your significant other and view Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its streaming debut on the Hulu service. On the surface, it may seem like standard body horror, but beneath Together exists a intense contemplation about our choices in loving each other.

An Introductory Film Exploring Partnership Complexities

Together is the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It features actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have stayed together for over ten years. Married in actuality in 2017, the actors contribute a special spark to their characters, expertly portraying both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The narrative starts when Tim and Millie move from the urban environment to the rural area for her career. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the cliches cease. Together transforms into as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their country house, a tempest descends, and the two tumble into an subterranean cavern. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity begins influencing the couple. This force compels a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond emotional intimacy.

The entire film is a gradually intensifying fright fest, blending moments of fever-dream horrors, unsettling (but never too gross) body horror, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes amidst something grotesque). The director skillfully blends these components neatly and wraps them up in a consistently growing atmosphere of fear.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is exclusively the two lead actors, and they masterfully render manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his reluctance to focus on anything other than his floundering music career gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and separated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve left the city and far away from his social circle. He dreads the concept of utterly sacrificing his personal autonomy in his partner. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he can’t drive and needs Millie for getting around.

Shanks’ smartest move in this movie refrains from painting either of his characters the obvious villain.

Both characters grapple with the type of challenges that arise in most partnerships a decade in. Fundamentally, they still love one another. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But below this facade, there’s an persistent feeling of questioning about their bond.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together symbolize these concerns of excessive reliance and fully committing to a partner, the metaphor never feels hamfisted or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements provide a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s ending, which is best experienced firsthand, has created disagreement on the film’s ultimate message about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that those not in relationships have seen the movie as a strong argument for avoiding commitment. Conversely, certain partners experiencing tension found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could function as a revealing measure of how you think about commitment. Will the ending sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your other half and say, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an exploration you can experience today.

Together is currently playing on Hulu's platform now.
